VINCENT FAUDEMER

Interview

The small Prince of Contemporary Art *

What inspired you to become a contemporary artist?

I have always been passionate about creation, the fact of producing something, but above all arousing emotions that's why I chose the characters, cartoons or heroes of my youth because I like to have them with me every day. It's a bit like my Madeleine de Boost.

Can you tell us about your journey and evolution as an artist?

I publicly started in 2017, it was extremely fast, thanks to social networks and contact from the Kardashian family, then followed the collaboration with the Plaza athénée hotel the shooting with French television in Los Angeles and the magic of Instagram helped me to propel me into one of the contemporary artists with the most visibility.

What are the themes or subjects you explore in your artwork?

Childhood memories: childhood, the sweet memories of childhood, what I watched, when I was little on TV, where the book I was reading, I was a big lover of the famous Babar and the values of respect friendship and family is what inspired me, even if I did it completely differently, it embodies for me, stability, childhood carefree, and at the same time I pose it with the bling-bling capitalist side of our consumer society.
It is a reflection so that people can be brought to reflect on the same sure that they are really. With the side Chrome mirror that reflects us our own image.

How would you describe your artistic style and how do you think it differs from other contemporary artists?

I was one of the first to take up Iconic images, old cartoons, Babar at over 80 years old.
Most people like to create new characters, new ideas and new techniques. I basically believe that you can revisit something already known is established. This will arouse much more emotions in the minds of visitors or collectors.

What materials do you use in your work and why?

We use complex resin compounds and chrome with silver ture.
We also use polished stainless steel, mirror or bronze.
It all depends on the size of the installation and how it is displayed inside or outside.
The choice of materials is essential. It helps us to have a work that works the time

How do you choose the artistic projects you participate in and who do you like to work with?

It's very difficult, because we receive a lot of requests.
We try to respond to the different projects, we can say that it favors the ideas and values that resemble us the most and we try to be as much in phase as possible with the vision of brands for example.
It has to have an impact and be useful or bring something cool to the consumer for the person who is going to visit the exhibition.

How do you use new technologies in your work and how has it influenced your artistic style?

We use a lot of 3D renderings to analyze each angle of our sculptures, we try to have a maximum of rounded angles for softness, but nothing replaces the real touch is the technique and the know-how execution when we go to the material

How have your recent successful art projects developed and what are your next creative steps?

One of the first collections was based on the famous Babolex elephant.
You had a huge success, because during the exhibition at the Plazza Athénée, we had placed luxury accessories on the different elephants with each time matching shades to the brands.
Word of mouth, and the many galleries that have blown up at us, have really allowed for a rapid development.

We have a lot of new characters coming in, they are developed internally, and we will be able to communicate on them shortly before the exhibition, in our environment, the secret is cultivated

How do you measure the success of your artwork and what are your long-term artistic goals?

It's very hard to talk about yourself, in fact, I don't think I've ever taken a selfie in my life.
I prefer to share my ideas and creations and see people's surrender rather than talk about success.
Strictly speaking, it could be a success, if in 15 or 20 years my work is recognized, without me having to put my name on it.

We have some very interesting projects in the Middle East.
We have already started with a giant sculpture in Qatar that was delivered in the winter of 2022.
We have a whole program concerning children with a cartoon of which we already have some images internally that I think are superb with excellent values

What advice would you give to those looking to pursue a career in contemporary art?

It's an exciting field, even if the barriers to entry are extremely complicated, there is a lot of competition among galleries, I would advise first to test the reaction of the public on the Internet and try to federate a community.
This is what I have been working on for the last six years, it is not the easiest thing but it is what gives us stability and belief in the projects we are putting in place.
